Turn the bag upside down. That is the whole inspection.
Customized Duffel Bags makes duffels to order — barrel, reinforced-base cargo, weekender, wheeled, welded roll-top and team duffels.

A backpack has a harness. A suitcase has a shell. A trolley has a chassis. A duffel has none of those: it is a fabric tube with handles sewn to it.
So everything you put inside is carried by the handles and the shoulder strap, and on a cheaply made bag that entire load arrives at four small patches of body fabric. The webbing never breaks. The fabric tears out around a stitch line that is still perfectly intact, usually all at once, usually when the bag is fullest.
The fix costs a few cents: the webbing does not stop at the anchor. It runs up one side, under the base and back up the other, so the bag hangs inside its own strap. It is invisible in a photograph and absent from every spec sheet, which is exactly why it is the first thing removed to hit a price.
Why we exist
Two things decide how long a duffel lasts, and you can check both yourself in under a minute.
**The load path.** Turn the bag over. If the handle webbing runs under the base and up the other side as one continuous sling, the strap carries the load. If it stops where it is stitched to the side, the body fabric carries it — and that is where the bag will fail.
**The base.** A duffel gets put down: gravel, wet platforms, van floors, changing rooms. A base that is the same single layer as the body abrades through from the outside while the rest of the bag is barely used. A separate reinforced panel fixes that, and lifting the base seam up the side rather than running it around the bottom edge stops the stitching being dragged along the ground every time the bag moves.
Neither of these is a material question, which is why buying a heavier fabric does not solve them.
What we actually make
Barrel duffels with continuous wrap-under webbing. Reinforced-base cargo duffels for kit that lives on a floor. Weekenders quoted in three dimensions with a trolley sleeve. Wheeled duffels with the housing and tow handle mounted into a reinforced plate. Welded roll-tops for when dry has to mean dry. And team duffels, named and numbered, with the spec held for reorders.
Every one of them has the webbing construction, the base construction and the three dimensions stated on the quote.
What we do not make
Gym bags. They are built around a completely different problem — damp kit, lined wet compartments, shoe tunnels and ventilation — and if that is what you need, you want a gym bag rather than a duffel with a pocket in it, and we will say so.
Backpacks and cinch bags. Insulated bags and cooler bags. Clear stadium bags. Suitcases. All different products, and there are suppliers who do nothing else.
And we will not print the word waterproof on a sewn, zipped bag, however normal that has become in this category.
Litres are a shape, not a size
Capacity in litres is the most quoted and least useful number on a duffel. Two bags at the same stated volume can be completely different objects: a long thin barrel and a short deep one hold the same amount and behave nothing alike.
One of them slides into an overhead locker. One of them does not fit at all. One of them swallows a kit bag’s worth of long items; the other is easier to carry loaded.
So we quote length, width and height, and we describe the shape. Where cabin size matters we give you the numbers and tell you plainly that airline limits are theirs and they change — we are not going to promise you something somebody else decides.
How we price
No dollar figures on this site. Price moves with the size, the fabric, the webbing and base construction, the closure and the quantity — and the construction items are a far smaller share of the cost than most people expect and almost all of the difference in how long the bag survives. Send the details and a real quote comes back the same day, with a lowest-price guarantee if you are already holding a cheaper one. Ask that supplier whether their webbing wraps the base.
On branding
Embroidery, print or a woven label, and on a duffel the position matters more than the method. The panel that faces out when the bag is carried is not the panel that faces the camera on a product shot, and a mark placed for the photograph often spends its life against somebody’s hip.
We mock up on the carried orientation as well as the flat one. For team bags we add the name or number at no extra cost, because named bags come back and identical unnamed ones end up in a lost-property box.
Anything stitched through a welded roll-top defeats the point of welding it, so on that format branding is welded or printed rather than embroidered, and we will explain why rather than quietly substituting.
